The XPO Trainer from a Coach's Perspective – Lawrence Ringwald and LBR Training, Inc.

This month we've headed north to Canada to bring you the perspective of Lawrence Ringwald, owner of LBR Training Inc. Lawrence is a former Professional Track & Field Athlete now specializing in coaching and personal training. Coach Ringwald brings experience coaching collegians and professional athletes as well as personal training for the general population for over 20 years.

Six years ago, Coach Ringwald purchased a small commercial building and moved LBR Training to its current location in Ottawa.

"Over the past few years, we have attracted excellent coaches and trainers to work at our smaller but well-equipped gym. We offer personal training, mobility work, Sports conditioning, running evaluations, and massage therapy," Coach Ringwald shared.

The coaches' and trainers' combined experience encompasses decades of hands-on and formal education, and they cater all their programs to suit any need, any sport, any level, any age. LBR Training is unique because of their attention to detail - whether that be the equipment they use or, more importantly, the attention they give to their wide range of clients.

Why did you purchase XPO Trainer(s) for your gym?

The XPO Trainer fits our needs perfectly and our desire to provide world-class training while doing more with less. The XPO Trainer allows us to work out speed and conditioning components in a smaller space. We love it (although there are times our clients wish we never bought it!)!

What benefits do you see when you or clients add sled training to a workout routine?

The benefits of the XPO Trainer are numerous, but we concentrate on two main areas: 1) conditioning athletes and clients 2) working on the drive phase for our speed and power athletes.

What makes the XPO Trainer different from other sleds you've used?

For us, the XPO Trainer differs from other sled systems because of the ability to train on a variety of surfaces and to work in long or short distances. There's no way you would take a traditional sled with a bunch of weight for a 50-100 meter push then want to bring it back - at least we don't think that is optimal use of time and space!

What is one of your most memorable workouts using the XPO Trainer?

Using the XPO intermittently with hurdle jumps – a lot of CNS (central nervous system) recruitment and a really quick way to induce stress and challenge into a workout program.

We've loved seeing LBR Training put the XPO to use with a wide variety of clients - from a rugby athlete recovering from an injury to their all-star client rocking XPO pushes at the young age of 71!
