In today’s Coach’s Perspective, we’re featuring James Free, Jr., CPT, CFNC, CF-L2, CFM, CFF, USAW – L1. That’s a lot of letters at the end of his name, but that also equals a lot of fitness training, so it’s great to hear his professional perspective on the XPO Trainer. He’s a Certified Personal Trainer, a USA Weightlifting Level 1 Coach and a CrossFit Level 2 Trainer to name a few of his certifications. James is the owner of Two-Seven Health and Wellness and co-owner of CrossFit Trivium in Brentwood, TN. As a coach and a competitor himself, he’s a big fan of the XPO Trainer. James uses the XPO Trainer when working with clients as a nutrition and performance coach at Two-Seven Health. He’s a 2-time regional competitor so not only is he using the XPO Trainer with his clients, but in his personal workouts as well.
WHY DID YOU PURCHASE THE XPO TRAINER FOR YOUR GYM?
I wanted an opportunity to push sleds with my clients on any terrain. The XPO Trainer gave me the opportunity to utilize a great tool anywhere.
WHAT BENEFITS DO YOU SEE WHEN YOU OR YOUR CLIENTS ADD SLED TRAINING TO A WORKOUT ROUTINE?
It’s a different stimulus than anything in the gym. Using it allows for periodization on another level.
WHAT MAKES THE XPO TRAINER DIFFERENT FROM OTHER SLEDS YOU’VE USED?
I don’t have any other sleds because the XPO Trainer is an exceptional tool. It is versatile and consistent. You know walking up to it that it’s going to be a battle.
WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR MOST MEMORABLE WODS USING THE XPO TRAINER?
With my athletes, I use it in conjunction with another exercise - helping the body build to a stress point and learn to buffer lactic acid more efficiently. The worst WOD I’ve done is a 1-mile push with ½ bodyweight. There is no coast on this sled. Every foot was a grind!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the XPO Trainer with us, James! We are so thankful to have many amazing coaches and trainers like you using our product. And we agree...the XPO Trainer is always a battle!
